About the book

Jacques Papenfus' organisation Moeggesukkel is known for the thousands of lives it touches every day, but few people know the remarkable story of the man behind the scenes.

After a tragic car accident in which Jacques, aged nine, loses his whole family, there follows a life of trauma, guilt, rebellion and a constant longing for a place where he belongs. But out of that time of untold pain began an extraordinary journey of faith and healing. Jacques takes the reader through his darkest years, his search for answers, miraculous encounters with God and the beginning of Moeggesukkel.

This is the story of a little boy who wondered why he survived, and of a man who discovered that his deepest wounds became the place where God's grace shines brightest.

Die seun wat bly leef het ("The boy who stayed alive") is a testimony of hope for everyone who has known loss, rejection or loneliness: a reminder that our worth is not decided by what we have lost or what others think of us, but by knowing that we are precious in God's eyes.
